Finished By Friday

In case you didn’t know, I work for Dave Foster in Lake Placid NY. Many of the employees are people that I know. Dave Fay is Dave Foster’s head carpenter, Rodney Shumway is the manager of the landscaping crew, and I am the… well I work for Rod. That comment that I posted in the title was something Dave had told me when I found out one of the jobs that we were doing had been quoted for one million (count’em $1,000,000) dollars. This particular job had a tennis court on it that hadn’t been used for probably 30 to 40 years. The people wanted all that trees and shrubs that had grown up ripped out, and they wanted the tennis court redone. That was why Dave Fay told me that, I had made some comment to him about all the money it must be costing to do this. It is also interesting to consider this about these rich people. First of all, every place that we take care of (I use “we” collectively meaning the whole business… and that business being White Barn Designs) is just a “summer camp”....

I KNOW I KNOW! They pretty well had it on me before I knew what was happening!! (I think that was Wanda's creativity at its best!) What's worse is that they have promised/threatened to bring it to the rehearsal! The cake looks pretty though! :-) (Compliments of Lillian!) Thanks to Sis Shumway for the pix!

Here we are - another weekend!! The TO DO list has dwindled down to mostly things that can't be done until a little closer to time, and things that others are taking care of for us. It still feels like we'll never get everything together, but I'm getting more and more resigned to whatever happens! (I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not! : / ) Now it's just a matter of finalizing travel plans, making sure the dresses are getting done, and deciding exactly what we want to eat at the reception. (I know there's got to be more to it than that. That sounds way too easy! I guess we'll see.) We've got a Jack & Jill shower of sorts scheduled for the 4th of July. (A favorite holiday, by the way, second, I think, only to Christmas!) The Massena church ladies are planning the shower for me earlier in the afternoon, and the guys are supposed to join us a little later (for the food I think ;-). After this one I think that's all. I really am...

Well, I survived my first bridal shower! No, really there wasn't much to it. I was only a little nervous, but nothing like I had expected! The Bloomingdale church ladies and Mom C hosted a very nice bridal shower for me last Saturday (June 16th). It was a lot of fun and a great way for me to get to know some of Jon's family's oldest friends better! I played some new "games", laughed a lot, ate way too much good food, and got lots of nice things for our new home! It was neat to feel all the love and support from a group of ladies who only know me through Jon. I was touched to know how much so many women think of my soon-to-be husband! Meanwhile, on the other side of town, the guys occupied themselves with a Bachelor party - dinner then mini-golf and ice cream. Would you believe that for all the whining and excuses about having to get lost while we were doing the girls only thing, they made us wait up for them?! :-) I don't mind! Hello Everyone! Just wanted to show you the newest member of our soon to be family. This is Daisy, but I call her Daisy Dolittle. She’s a parakeet and a feisty one too. As you can see in this picture I have her tail… I’m holding her against her will, sometimes she will be completely okay with sitting on your finger, and other times she couldn’t be more annoyed. Here is one of her in her cage. She has small living quarters, but she gets to fly around the room. And here is one of her on one of her perches in the room. She likes to be up high on the look out. Leah had a bird a while ago, and his name was Ritz, he was all about going for walks on the carpet, but Daisy isn’t too keen on being down so low yet. (And for those of you who are wondering how on earth you know what the gender is… male parakeets have blue nostrils, and females have pink)

So the invitations are all done and ready to be sent out tomorrow! For real this time! :-) It's starting to feel like we're getting somewhere now! It's about time too! I just keep makeing list and rewriting them and crossing one thing off and adding about three more! And a kind of random update. My friend who has been through so much with cancer and brain tumors and things, is doing well! She had a doctor appointment Monday, and after MANY MRIs and other testing, and about four doctors, they decided that she does not have breast cancer. They will continue to monitor her and do tests every six months to make sure it stays that way, but for now we are all very thankful that things are ok. Oh yes, and one other random thing - I feel the need to explain/justify the Batman picture. Yes, I (Leah) posted it on our page! Surprise! It seems that one of the many things that Jon and I have in common, is our love for Batman! Now mind you I hadn't even seen Batman until Jon came alo...

Well, here we are another day older. Scary huh? Leah and I have been getting things together for the honeymoon.We aren’t exactly telling everybody, but it you want to know, we may or may not share ;). On a more serious note, it is no question that God has blessed us and been helping us, and I would just like to thank Him for that. We found out tonight that we will be receiving some of the drinks for the wedding free. This has been happening with so many of things that we have gotten. Not that they were all free, but we find super deals on them. This weekend will not be such a productive weekend. Unfortunately, I have an exam Saturday that starts at 1:00pm and I have 4 hours to take it. (You would think with being out of school and all, I would be done taking tests… but NOOOOO New York State feels otherwise.) Anyway, I’ve been praying that I just pass it, and I’ve gone over parts of it and it seems okay, but I’m not getting my hopes up. Anyhow, I just wanted to fill in a little informat...
