Finished by Friday

Image
I'm kind of cheating this week, but it IS still Friday and I HAVE posted all three days this week so woohoo for me! The Princess Cinderella costume was actually finished several Fridays ago before pumpkin carving Saturday and in plenty of time for Halloween.  Our sweet princess is obsessed with Cinderella (Yelya) and we couldn't  find a small enough costume (besides they wanted waaaaay too much for something that was going to fall apart before we got it out of the store!).  Mom to the rescue (I'm usually up for a good challenge.). . .  $3.83 in fabric from our local Wal-Mart, a few random supplies I already had at home, and a few hours off my life and she seemed to feel like royalty.  :)  She'd look in the mirror or just see the dress hanging and say "cute!". Also, clever little tip. . .  A couple strips of hot glue on the underside of a satin headband makes the thing stay put on thin little girl hair really well! And this is one of two vale...

Write it out Wednesday - Peace

Image
This week, I've been thinking about PEACE. . . I've never really cared much for the word or the symbol or anything else to do with it and I'm not even sure why.  The 70s were long gone before I was old enough to know anything about it, but for some reason the very idea has always set crosswise with me.  Honestly, I've never even given it much thought until this week.  I just kind of avoided clothing and things with the word or the symbol on it and i guess really assumed it was more of a "tree hugger" kind of thing.  This week, however, taking the WLW challenge , I have been thinking about what it means to have peace in your home and your life. As it turns out, once I did  think about it, I realized that: 1) The idea of peace is NOT a bad thing (DUH!) and 2) It's actually a common theme in the Bible! (Oops! How did I skim over and miss THAT all this time?!?)  Anyway, I did a search for the word "peace" in my handy-dandy Bible app, a...

Attention all Four of my blog readers!!

Make a Difference Monday

Hi there! So I have decided to revive this old blog...  As you can see, it has been quite a while since I last posted on here and it's always just been a small more private place to share my little project and brag on myself (when I was in school) but I've been wanting to create a more interesting public blog so I decided to just rework this one. Anyway, I plan to attempt about 3 posts a week (note I said ATTEMPT) "Make a Difference Monday" (I stole this title from Klove radio but I didn't think they'd mind since that's kinda the point), "Write it out Wednesday" (that's original as far as I know... Aren't I just so clever? :P), and "Finished by Friday" (not sure if I've seen this exact title but I've definitely seen the same general idea on other blogs but couldn't tell you which ones... If it's yours, leave me a comment and let me know so I can see what you accomplish every week. :)). Anyway, now that we have ...

Happy Halloween!

GRRR!! Thanks blogger! I didn't really want my pictures turned the right way anyway. . . Our beautiful princess "Yelya"" (Cinderella is her favorite. Still not sure how she even knows her but. . .) Our pumpkins didn't last very long at all! this one was on it's way out just a few days after carving. Note Anne and a book. . .  There was no getting her to sit still without them. Daddy and Yelya headed for trunk or treat. . .  He pulled the wig out last minute.  :-) Oh, and we forgot her bucket so I dumped my purse out for her.  She thought it was pretty cool getting stuff and putting it in her bag. Couple weeks ago we went for the annual Catton pumpkin carving party.  Yelya made her debut appearance then we carved and painted "gunkins" (pumpkins).                                                              ...

I'm not even gonna acknowledge the fact that it's been so long since my last post. . .  what I AM going to say is that I've been threatened!  My Mama informed me that if I didn't get a post up I'm not allowed to go to the women's retreat my church is having this weekend.  Apparently I'm back in fourth grade and if I don't get my homework done and that book report finished I'm not allowed to go to my friend's house!  Anyway, while I'm not THAT scared of my Mama, she IS babysitting Friday night (so Jon and the guys can go out too) and I've been wanting to post more pix anyway, so I figured now would be a good time.  Honestly, there are two good reasons I haven't been posting much - make that three. . .  (I know, I just couldn't leave it alone)  One reason is that it's way more convenient to check e-mail and blogs on my iPod but I haven't really gotten it all figured out how to post on there.  Maybe not like just a super good...

We're busy preparing for vacation, so I'm trying to empty my camera cards, charge batteries, etc. I was a little surprised by how long it's been since I emptied my card but anyway, here are some pictures of our summer so far.  Grama and PopPop gave Madelyn this little pool, so we took it over to Nana and Papa's house a few Saturdays. She loves it!  One night at Nana and Papa's she followed Papa into the kitchen and hit the jackpot! Peanut butter bagel (yep! no peanut allergies for us!).  Father's day (not super great pix cause she wasnt wanting to cooperate but...  Joy's piano recital. . . Great job as usual.  Just another cute day! :D  I love my sleepy girl!  First time in a big pool. She LOVED it! we've been in a big pool a few times now and she stays in for a long time before saying "daw daw" (all done).  4th of July. Trying to get her to sit and let me get a picture.  Cheese puffs I think and the infamous cheesy grin.  More 4th of Ju...
